Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use PERMISSION?

Anyone that owns a root domain (i.e. www.mydomain.com) can use PERMISSION to protect their own email address. If your site is on a subdomain (i.e. www.mydomain.blogger.com), then you can not currently use PERMISSION. (Side note: If you own the root domain, PERMISSION supports subdomain records i.e. blog.mydomain.com).

You can also get a @permissiontosend email address that would protect any email address (Side note: You would need access to your server.)

Why do I have to change my MX records?

PERMISSION does not require you to buy hardware, or install any software to get protection. Instead, you deploy PERMISSION by changing the current MX records for your domain, and adding a few files to your server. This allows us to route your emails through our mail servers that support the PERMISSION protocol.

How long before PERMISSION will protect my email on my own domain?

On average, it takes 24 hours for PERMISSION's protection to begin.

What is MX records?

Short for Mail Exchange Record, an entry in a DNS that identifies the mail server that is responsible for handling emails for that domain name.
When more than one MX record is entered for any single domain name that is using more than one mail server, the MX record can be prioritized with a preference number that indicates the order in which the mail servers should be used. This enables the use of primary and backup mail servers.
